The last time we met in Collo, we discussed the importance of values and evaluated ourselves to better understand what our own core values are. We began by naming certain values a person could have, making a list of 20+ words. We then had to choose eight of these values that meant a lot to us. Then, we narrowed that list to five, and then three. The last three were supposed to be our top three values, our core values.
After much thought, the three values that made my short list were faith, love, and relationships. Faith was my number one value because my relationship with God is the most important thing I focus on; I firmly believe that I would not be the same person I am without God and His love, peace, and guidance. Love was my second core value because I believe many other values stem from it. If you have love, you have kindness, empathy, humility, the desire to serve, integrity, etc. My third core value is relationships. My relationships with my family and friends are extremely important to me. I don’t know where I’d be without their love and support.
After reflecting on my core values, I have come up with a mission statement for my time here at ETSU: As I go, I will love others as God loves me, making relationships with my family, friends, and those in need a priority.
